Ragging : The Chain Reaction

School days pass by with strict code of conduct and a monotonous uniform. The moment a student starts fantasizing about his college, he paints a mental picture full of vibrant colors, colors of his casual wears and accessories().He imagines freedom from the boring lectures of faculty and walking out of a class with utmost pride and what not. One of the many things that come into its mind when a student thinks of college is “Ragging”. This thought may not necessarily be an apprehensive one, for there are disparate views of the youth on this issue. Some appear excited about the challenges they would be asked to face while some start planning their escape. I can say so empathetically as I have been a part of this tale. The ragging or bullying issue is a controversial issue in my eyes as per the present day scenario of Indian colleges.
I have observed this issue closely and stand as witness to various aspects of the same. When I entered college, I had the thrill and the “what if’s” in my mind regarding every new encounter at campus. One such ‘what-if ’was regarding the well known concept of ragging. We were advised to stay away from seniors and as per the rule, any senior whom we interacted with (even to get books) would be debarred from the university as he would be suspected of ragging the junior. This made the juniors feel safe enough so much so that the seniors felt unsafe. But many of fresher’s complained that they were devoid of any interaction with the seniors as they hesitated to even converse, just to save their skin. Now that was not what was intended but that’s what came out to be as the result of ‘strict banning of ragging’ put in a different meaning by the college authorities.
While the students were longing to be ragged at my university there was another university where in guys were ragged in every possible manner and at every nook and corner. The saga went on for one semester (i.e. 6 months) ,those who could stand it and take every hurdle in a sportive manner were now the equals among their seniors and the rest couldn’t bear further and so they tried to flee in various possible ways. Everything could have been balanced if only the extent of the act of ragging hadn’t crossed all boundaries. Somehow the seniors had misunderstood the legacy and concept of ragging at college and given it their own meaning. The result came out to be in the forms of suicide, mental stress, psychological disorder and what not. Who was to be blamed? The raggers or the one’s who allowed themselves to be hoodwinked?
In my opinion, the foremost to be blamed is their environment. Be it the cruel seniors or the timid juniors, the basic fault lies in the system that they live in, as all are nothing but students. The teachers today lack the dignity of the Guru’s of olden times and so they knowingly or unknowingly trigger the hatred in the budding minds. The present day faculty at most of the colleges has developed a tendency to compare students with themselves and let out their personal frustrations at the upcoming generation. This triggers a chain reaction where in the knowledge givers shower humiliation and wrath at the knowledge seekers and the latter find no one but their juniors to pass it on. This develops a false sense of pride at each level of the hierarchy and thus propagates fake notions of primitive concepts.
“Every action has an equal and opposite reaction” seems to have failed as an understandable theory. What is done today, to handle the youth, is something contradictory to this law. Tamil Nadu became the first state to come up with legislation against ‘Ragging’ by making students sign anti-ragging stamp paper. I certainly do not see this going in the right direction. The simplest thing we notice in a child is that he always does what he is forbidden from doing and by making it a crime to rag, we surely are going to encounter some upheaval. Youth is the reflection of the elderly and if the elders decide to act stern on every matter instead to trying to solve it out peacefully then the youth is going to follow even more insensitive methods to solve future tribulations.
If only the chain reaction could go the other way round….If only the knowledge givers could enlighten the seekers… the seniors could befriend their juniors….and guide them ahead instead of misleading them.

The delusional course to future

Ask a 9th grade student about his/her future plans and what you get as an answer may not be too far from conventional. The typical stereotypes are : “ I am planning to pursue my Bcom. & CA simultaneously” or “I am going to be a software engineer/Mtech Engg./MCA/Doctor ” or perhaps in mass communication. An amusing fact in such answers is the novice is usually not even aware of the level of skill and type of expertise required in such profiles of careers. All they know is “it sounds good and has good money”. In our country we hardly find students who know what they are heading for, what interests them, what they can excel at so that they choose the right path for themselves. And on top of it all we have the parental stigma’s associated with every child that binds him in the conventional yards. These being the most commonly known mishaps are yet not understood the way they are ought to be. It seems as though everyone has given up their strings in the hands of money and its kins. And even after that people fail to achieve success in what they pursue. What they miss is, that there are bound to be many failures for a handful of achievers. The answer is simple mathematics or you may call it logic. How on earth, with this milling population does one expect to succeed in the most conventional fields of work and that too just with a degree and no interest?
It’s a matter of choice. People work so hard to get things which do not suit them because they are delusional, so much so that they try to suit to the job instead of looking at it the other way. I donot understand that why is so difficult to mould children in such a way that they become strong individuals rather than a flock of sheep that go with the flow. If the foundations are strong enough they would grow up to be independent individuals who are far sighted and have a broad vision of the course to their futures instead of becoming just another brick in the wall. Let me elucidate by exemplifying the different levels of choices in a student’s life and the obvious results.
The major choice starts from 10th grade in our country where in a student can choose his preferred language. Suppose the general choices are Hindi / Sanskrit. What is the majority choice? - Sanskrit. Why? –Because it’s a scoring subject as one just has to mug up some things. Hindi seems to be risky. The next level is the 11th grade where one chooses his/her major that is Science or Commerce. Well those who are weak in science and can’t bear it go for commerce and not because they find commerce interesting , while those who find that science can make them look smart and earn them good money go for science and usually not because they have a thirst for innovation. The funny part here is that many forget the fields like arts , literature, home science , psychology etc. And why do they pretend to forget these? Merely because these are looked down on, by the society. The best or the worst choices are made at this level. There are students who drag themselves into science and become a part of the endless struggle for IIT’s and NIT’s while there are those who comfortably do their Bcom. and then probably prepare for CA or MBa. But was this choice what they really craved for? Does this choice include all their interests and skills? Will this choice keep them happy and without regrets in future? A definite answer is “NO”. I can say so because as far as I have observed, every person has a thresh-hold beyond which he/she cannot just drag himself into something and that’s what makes them regret their choice later on. What today’s youth is forgetting is that there are yet many unearthed and innovative fields lying around the globe to be dug up and shone. Youngsters not only overlook their hearts desires and minds interests but also the various paths that lead towards them. A person having interest in economics can very well pursue Economic Honors even after being a science student. But that never occurs to him as he is busy fighting for seats in the n-number of engineering institutes. The results are very obvious : stress , depression , suicides or just an unhappy life. The other side of result shows us decreased skills, fewer innovations and even fewer initiatives like social entrepreneurship.
If only the student had been given the freedom to choose his favorites language at the 10th grade…..If only he could go into animation course after 12th grade and if only he/she had the courage to be the speaker/writer he/she always wanted to be…. Our country could a diverse in industries as well as it is in demographics. The problem is always us , because we let the system stay as it is and never be the YUVA we are supposed to be in order to bring a change for good. May be that’s the difference between the youth who fought for independence and us – who cannot even stand for our own choice. All we do is blindly walk on the delusional path to future thinking that everything will be perfect. But wham! There it is…smiling at our faces when we regret our choices and repent all lifelong.
So, what’s your choice?
“To be the change or just another brick in the wall?”

The N-dimensions of Repsect...

Respect comes from within...and not just because the other is an elder.I believe that respect is one essential ingredient to the recipe of affection or idolization.
Our country has a weird social understanding of the concept of "Respect".
It's so funny that people ask others to respect them when it is quite clear that one does not need to ask for it if he/she is substantial enough.
I donot understand the social stigma which makes it mandatory for youngsters to respect all the elders or the ancient methodologies or anything said by a great public figure.
I feel that its not necessary that I even "show" respect to anyone who just fulfills the above criterion.Respect,to me,is a concept which one feels rather than shows.
I like to view a multidimensional perspective of whatever I come across.Talking of respect,I think the best way to go about it is by exemplifying experiences...

"He removes the greatest ornament of friendship, who takes away from it respect."
In fact its not just friendship,it can be any relation but if one stops respecting the other, then the charm of the relation diminishes.Respect is one of the powerful forces that draws you near to a person,or makes him/her your idol.Respect is not just something stereotyped for elderly and superiors. It could be for anyone,a person of your age or even younger. What counts is the credibility of the person and his personality.I have been through the emotional ride of respecting a friend and then altering my belief because of one act of that person and then loosing the faith and affection towards that person...For me,respect really matters in any relation.

"That you may retain your self-respect, it is better to displease the people by doing what you know is right, than to temporarily please them by doing what you know is wrong."
We as students are asked to respect our "so-called" teachers and other senior members. But are they worth paying respect?Do we really respect them or just show respect to save our skins? Why this hypocrisy?Just so that we are'nt in trouble? But have we ever given it a thought that if we donot stop this act of "showing respect" to undeserving people, the fallacies will lead the power in wrong hands.
Another dimension to this category of respect is the mutuality of Respect. It doesnt make sense when its said as a rule that "students should respect all teachers" ,when there are students who deserve to be respected themselves...Teaching is supposed to be a sacred occupation wherein knowledge is dispersed without seeking selfish goals..But it seems exactly opposite in our country..A student is checked a 100 times for his eligibility to enter any institute but is there even a refined process for selection of the educators? And then we are asked to respect?? ASKED TO RESPECT...
It really sounds so amusing...as if the faculty are mocking themselves....
Once a teacher said to me -"Vivek Anand was the only disciple of his Ramakrishna who said that had he been GOD he would have designed the world in a different way" to which Ramakrishna replied -"Yes you can do it Narendra".
After phrasing this the teacher said that you people must be like Vivekanand....and that was the moment I felt saying-"It could be possible if you could be respectable and encouraging enough as Vivekanand's Guru"....

Traditional beliefs are yet another episode of Indian social stigmas...Most people practice "touching feet of the elderly" as a sign of respect. And the funny part is ,incase they don't bend and touch the feet, some elders ask ..or may be their parents
them to do so..Why???Just to SHOW respect!!!man when will anybody learn that respect is not a show-off commodity!!

Forces Of Nature!!

With my recent illness and suffering ,I came across an alarming fact that stress could literally ruin your life and if you are not strong enough,it could kill you as well...

It was then I realized that there was something truthful about the natural forces and their connection with us....

"Nam-Myo-Ho-Renge-Kyo" is one of the powerful verses that draw natural forces towards those who chant it...

Let me start with elucidating the meaning of the Enlightening Buddhist Chant...

Nam (rhymes with “Mom”)

Nam is a contraction of Namu. Within Namu, Nam means devotion to something, and U means getting back effects appropriate to what you devoted yourself to, and how intensely. For example, some businessmen are devoted to making profit. That’s their NAM. Their U is both good and bad – wealth, and ulcers perhaps. Buddhists choose the Universal Law, or the Buddha Nature, as their NAM. This NAM includes and embraces all lesser NAMs, such as making money. Indeed, a businessman who worships the Universal Law will succeed at business more than he ever did previously.

Myoho (each syllable rhymes with “go”)

MYO means the Mystic Law. The Mystic Law cannot be sensed directly. It is the cause and maintainer of all that exists. It is eternal. It exists within each one of us and within all things. It is the ultimate source of goodness, capability, wisdom, fortune and compassion. HO are the phenomenal manifestations of MYO. These expressions are both physical and spiritual. HO is the part that can be grasped through the senses.

Renge (pronounced “Wren-Gay”)

RENGE stands for the Lotus Flower, which flowers and seeds at the same time. Thus the Lotus Flower is a symbol for the simultaneity of cause and effect. When we chant, our Buddha Nature emerges simultaneously. On the other hand, it takes years of repeated daily chanting to make Buddhahood the central tendency in our lives. The Lotus Flower blooms from a muddy swamp yet is untainted by the mud, remaining immaculate. This symbolizes how Buddhahood can emerge from the life of an ordinary person, and real, actual society can be transformed for the better when enough people are chanting.

Kyo (rhymes with “go”)

KYO stands for Teaching (or Sutra). Specifically it stands for the Lotus Sutra, the teaching which uniquely bridges the gap between the Buddha and the common mortal. Kyo also means voice; everything we utter is some kind of cause, positive or negative, and the highest cause we can make is to use our voices to chant and to discuss Buddhism with other people. KYO also means the warp of cloth, which symbolizes continuity – Nichiren Buddhism is over seven centuries old, and it comes from a long lineage of earlier Buddhist teachings going all the way back to Shakyamuni 2500 years ago in India.

As a whole, NAM MYOHO RENGE KYO can be translated as “Devotion to the Mystic Law of cause and effect through sound.” But that is only one possible translation. MYOHO RENGE KYO happens to be the title of the Lotus Sutra. By adding NAM, Nichiren discovered the mantra that actually taps the Buddha Nature, or the Law of the Universe.

Now comes the alarming part....I am an atheist...and believe me...life is not simple when you are a non-believer and a pessimist...With prolonged pain..I realized that I should somehow channel my energies towards a positive source.....and as Shahrukh Khan said in OSO "Agar kisi cheez ko dil se chaaho..tou sari kaynaath usey paane mein tumhari madad karti hai"....
I cant actually express in words about the feeling of being helped by Natural forces....Its like a childhood magical fantasy come true...
Imagine...while you are sitting in the exam hall and you forget something very simple and derivable...and you only have that limited time to think and write...
I was in sucha a scenario recently... (as my exams are on!) ....and all I did was chanted "Nam Myo Ho Renge Kyo"....and somehow...with my faith in the forces...everything came back tumbling to me...and I could write that critical answer of mine..
The force I feel towards my aura...when I chant these rejuvenating words...is something beyond explanation for a ex-non-believer like me...

To make you understand the concept of "Nature's hand behind all being well" ...
I present the following example...

Each floor in your building houses a different company; your employer is on Floor 3.
On the 5th Floor, Hell predominates because the employees of Run Round Inc., an accounting and consulting firm, just found out the SEC will dismantle them for accounting irregularities and insider trading.

On Floor 2, the employees at Gobble Group are in a Hunger life state, feverishly trying to finalize their unfriendly takeover of FreshMeat Corporation.

On Floor 9, Animality predominates as FreshMeat employees desperately try to fend off Gobble Group’s unfriendly takeover, knowing most of the jobs eliminated in the restructuring will come from FreshMeat.

On Floor 7, the partners and staff at the law firm of Koop, Acconte, Reese, Sieves, Able, & Curran are in an Anger life condition, because FreshMeat owes them a lot of money and just informed them payment will be delayed indefinitely.

The 4th Floor houses no offices, but is filled with concessions such as a cafeteria, news stand, gift shop, gym, etc. The people who work on this floor calmly go about their daily routine, neither worried nor overjoyed about their livelihoods. So on the 4th Floor a state of Humanity is prevalent.

Rapture predominates on Floor 1, where the employees at AppleTree Inc. – makers of a leading firewall program – just went into public trading, and all became instant millionaires.

The Floors that are in a condition of Hell, Hunger, Animality, Anger, Humanity or Rapture all have something in common: their life state is determined entirely by their fluctuating environment. The remaining Floors are in conditions of Learning, Realization and Altruism, and they have something in common too: the inner discipline to influence their own destiny by proactively improving their own feelings and circumstances.

Floor 6 houses Jones & Klein Pharmaceuticals, Research Division. The employees here are involved in medical research and have no role in the financial side of the business. On the 6th Floor, a condition of Learning is prevalent.

Realization predominates on Floor 8, where the Detroit Motors Think Tank has been subjecting the Detroit Motors Company to self scrutiny – analyzing past mistakes and conceiving new strategies to keep foreign competition at bay.

Your fellow employees on Floor 3 are in a condition of Altruism, where they are attending a half-day seminar entitled “Corporate Responsibility, Employee Volunteerism, and the Real Book Value of Goodwill.”

But you personally have been excused from this seminar, as you already attended it at another company location. You have the rest of today off. Your special friend is out of town; your relatives are out of town; your friends are still at work; your apartment is being fumigated; you have a slight cold, so you don’t feel like going to the gym.

But you feel a little light exercise might do you good. You’ve always been curious about the other companies in your building, so you decide to wander around and have a look at the other floors.

It is the elevator, your 10 Factors – Appearance, Nature, Entity, Force, Influence, Inherent Cause, Manifest Cause, Inherent Effect, Manifest Effect, and Consistency From Beginning To End – that enables you to freely fluctuate among the life-states of Hell, Hunger, Animality, Anger, Humanity, Rapture, Learning, Realization, and Altruism.

But are these movements just changes, or really improvements?

Logically, there can be only two ways the elevator’s movements can bring any gain. (a) The elevator must frequent the floors with high life conditions and avoid the floors with low life conditions, or, (b) the elevator must learn to experience every life condition it encounters – whether high or low – in a more enlightened way.

The problem with solution (a) is that it is impractical. People have to report to work on all 9 floors. And the elevator may need to cross a “low condition” floor to get from one “high condition” floor to another. Likewise, human beings cannot entirely avoid the lower life conditions, nor would it be desirable to do so; without anger, how could you seize a broom and defend a small child from a vicious dog?

So, for the elevator’s movements to be improvements, and not merely changes, the solution is not for the elevator to try to visit only the floors with high life conditions. So since life cannot avoid experiencing all of its conditions, the key is to experience them in a more enlightened way. This points to the importance of tapping the 10th, highest life state – enlightenment.

Completing a picture!!

If I were to be todays Gandhi....how would my gandhigiri be....Here comes a succint description of that....

Leadership in my eyes is not merely a synonym for control. It is about instilling the power of expression in each person who looks up to me as his/her leader. The kind of leadership I portray is like a building with certain basic foundations which make it strong enough to withstand tornadoes. A visualization of my leadership qualities is depicted below.

I have always cherished to take charge of a group of people and guide them in any endeavor. There have been many instances where I have been strong enough to take up a responsibility and fulfill its purpose with complete dedication. I believe leadership comes with a lot of power and even greater responsibilities. I have been the head co-coordinator of a technical event in College tech-fest and during that period I realized that as a leader I had the patience to run around in order to get work done on time even when my sub-ordinates seemed to be faltering at times. I am a punctual person when it comes to meeting deadlines and no matter what, I don’t entertain unpunctuality as I myself do not deviate from it. Moreover, with the event organizing experience I came across my ability to work as part of a team even after being the leader. Appreciating the work of my sub-ordinates and letting them come up with their ideas worked out to be a benefit for my team.
Giving responsibility to my assistants is a little tough job as it requires me to take a risk which may have exceptionally bad or good results. But that is the charm of leadership for me. Believing in my co-workers and letting them evolve without any bounds is what I perceive to portray a healthy relation between me and the team.
Befitting the picture is an important aspect when it comes to leading people at technical projects. Guiding and helping my sub-ordinates is my way of making them feel that I am there to take responsibility when they falter and yet I will not encourage disregard towards work and my orders.
As a leader, I feel that it is very important to do my “homework” just as a professor is supposed to do before he comes to lecture. I always make sure that I maintain a difference between my personal agonies and my professional duties and I expect similar from my sub-ordinates.
I have a knack to convince people in a way that they trust me and gain from my influence. My key to gain trust is “I practice what I preach”. I am quite an honest person and I never tend to be biased when it comes to judge between a person whom I personally appreciate and another whom I dislike, because when it comes to professional issues, I only see their capabilities and results.
My influence on my technical community is positive when the community comprises of professionals who do not take my stand on decisions personally and do not loathe my being superior to them. I try my best to maintain harmonious relations with those I work with but I don’t compromise my dignity and the position I am on. If I am leader, I must have some additional qualities than the others or just the courage and a little dominance to be ready to lead whenever asked to.
I picture myself as a crucial part of the picture which my co-workers combine to create.

My Fair Lady....SHE!!

Vote for me now!

Blogomania 2010 sponsored by Odyssey360 | The 24 hour online book store with 5 milion books to choose from.

"She may be the face I can't forget...
The trace of pleasure or regret..
May be my treasure or the price I have to pay..

She may be the song the summer sings..
May be the chill the autumn brings..
May be a hundred different things...
Within the measure of the day...

She may be the mirror of my dream...
The smile reflected in a stream..
She may not be what she may seem...
Inside her shell...

She, who always seems so happy in a crowd...
Whose eyes can be so private and so proud...
No one's allowed to see them when they cry!

She may be the love that cannot hope to last..
May come to me from shadows of the past..
That I'll remember till the day I die !

She may be the reason I survive...
The why and wherefore I'm alive..
The one I'll care for through the rough and ready years..
Me, I'll take her laughter and her tears..
And make them all my souvenirs..
For where she goes, I've got to be...
The meaning of my life is...she!!"

You must be thinking, WHO IS SHE??And I am sure some might also have the "L" thought
in their rusty brains...But thats not the case here...coz SHE is MY FAIR LADY...
MY ARCHANGEL...MY ORIGIN....MY MOMA....
Yes..the SHE I chose to write about is my beautiful goddess..My mother...
I just was yearning to write this as soon as I saw the topic "SHE"...
I have so much to say...I don't know how to put all of it in nothing but words!!!
The aforementioned dedication truly comes from the abysmal depths of my heart for my cute chubby moma....I love her from all possible angles....be it as a daughter,a girl,a friend ,a die hard fan and even as a life partner...(chuckles)!
She is a remarkably wonderful and powerful woman! She is lady who has the rarest combination of Love, kindness, intelligence and smartness!!
I may have hundreds of things wrong in my life...but the one asset which I have ,who
sets it all right is My moti Maa(as I call her)...She is like a complete and perfect
lady...I can't help noticing that fact....She is not the best mom one could ever imagine...but one of the best human beings on earth....
She is the reason...for me to be proud...to be always happy....and also to be sad...
when I am not near her.....I don't know...if she is just natural or Supernatural...
because there are times when her just being near me ...makes me well in all aspects..
be it physical or mental....I mean...shez like a beautiful angel who is in human disguise....
How do I describe her awesomeness...I just dont have a clue...yet I will go on...coz I just cannot stop....
I know....every mom loves their kids and does everything possible for them....
Yet I feel that there is too much more to my fair lady....She is a woman of Substance.....I could never have a better idol to look up to.....
Looking up to her...I feel diminutive....being her daughter is the greatest honour that could be bestowed upon me....I say this because I find her excellent in all the things she does.....and not once does she complain about the miseries of her life..
Since I was born...she not only did what she could possibly do...but went out of her way to polish my childhood....She did all what it needed to make her children's lives
comfortable and happy in all possible situations....
She doesnt even stop today....Nothing can tire her if she wants to do something for
me and my lil bro....
She started working 10 years ago....and today I can proudly say that my MOTHER is excellent at Management and Finance..even without a degree...She has won so many
trophies and sashes and perks that neither of her children have, till date...
The fantastic part is...that she has been a winner since birth....She was a brilliant
student...academically....and yet a national tennis player....and yet again she was
very artistic....Today she has conquered the other part of the "kingdom of skills"..
Basically....she just knows a hell lot of things..and that too so perfectly...
Ofcourse...she was'nt born lucky...but she just rubbed her coin so hard...that it has
turned to a diamond now...
I have observed many parents...there are varieties like...
Hitlers,Coconutty,Frank but abide by laws, friendly but upto one particular limit.
My mom does'nt belong to any of these....she has her own category...and I have'nt yet
seen anyone else on that list...She is parent who inspite of having achieved great heights in personal and professional life...,does'nt put her children under the burden of that...Ofcourse she expects from her kiddos...but her expectations donot
overpower her thought of making her kids happy whatever may happen....
She has been the greatest supporter ever ,at all the times I lose or donot get the rewards I deserve...Even till date....when I am about to transform to be a woman...she still supports me the same way....by sayin "YOU ARE A WINNER IN MY EYES,COZ I KNOW YOU WORKED HARD AND DESERVED IT MORE THAN ANYONE else".....
AT times when I am stressed...she just tells me to chuck away all my tensions and
enjoy life....to hell with jobs and money....
I draw all my strength from her.....Man!!she is one big Power House!!
She has been an outstanding mentor, parent and friend. And she plays all her parts extremely well....I gape even at the thought of it!!!
Since my childhood..she has made me an independent girl...
She is a mother...and has her insecurities...but still she never let them come in my way of evolution...She let me choose between right and wrong....She let me take risks...and made me bold and brave enough to survive the tough world out there....
She let me waver sometimes ...but never let me FALL!!!And even though it was my fault..she never blamed me...and never tried to teach me lesson...as a result of what
I became so sincere and righteous...
She never pushes me for anything.....and believes in me more than I do.....
One of her many specialties is that she never intrudes in other people's lives and never let them intrude in her children's....
She is a monument of SELFLESSNESS!!She has always fulfilled all my wants and needs..
even without my asking for them...and I hope you people donot get deluded ...so let me tell you...she is not filthy rich at money....but She is the richest when it comes
to heart....
She is a compassionate person...who cares so much for all who need it...that she does'nt even see if the person deserves it or not............My archangel yet marvels at smartness......She has learned a lot of lessons from life...but even at the age equal to Shahrukh Khan's....she does'nt give up..nor does she fret...
I love her attitude towards life...."Never crib just eat, work, sleep healthy and Live!"
She has seen all kinds of evil....yet all she has learned is being "A good smart person".Things have to change their routes to influence her...and yet she is the first to influence them...and convince them!!
Every "SHE" has a fantasy to be free and if not that..atleast provide her daughter with all those things she could'nt have!!......It's a simple thought to dream about..
but MY FAIR LADY has made this dream a reality....
I love her like she resides in me....And I just owe every good thing of my life to her....
This one's for You moma...
LOVE YOU MY DARLING CHUBBY CHEEKS!!!
PS: I thing this post will keep growing till my life span!

The Dragon And The Elephant!!!

Vote for me now! Blogomania 2010 sponsored by Odyssey360 | The 24 hour online book store with 5 milion books to choose from

What creeps in your mind when you see this kind of a title??
There can be thousands of different answers to this one...so let me start with mine..
When I first saw the mention of these two creature together...the thought that crept in my mind is "Ek taraf kua ek taraf khai" i.e. "On one side is a well and on the other is a crater!!"... In one word you could call it 'dilemma'....
But of course its the nature of man to dig deep in such intriguing things & so did I.
To start with..I will first describe the characteristics of both and then map them
to my reflection of the two!!
Elephant being my favorite animal (for weird reasons though) I thought why not start with the same..The elephant is a truly amazing creature. It is an animal that has been respected, revered, even worshipped, in many of the world's cultures for thousands of years. While the Western world has been obsessed with the power symbol of the lion, the East has long held the elephant as their supreme animal icon.

Elephants are the epitome of sustainability, adaptation is the key!!These Jumbos are not predators. They are complete vegetarians living from the land, not off their fellow-creatures. They have no natural enemies other than humans and are seldom seen in violent encounters with other species. As a rule, the elephant's relationship to other species and Nature is highly cooperative and symbiotic. For example, elephants often provide the lifeline that other animals need in the dry bushveld by digging for water, or enlarging existing water holes. Their eating habits, which often appear destructive, simultaneously open up the forest canopy to allow young growth better access to the sunlight and make previously inaccessible vegetation more widely available to other species.

Elephants' awesome size and strength inspires respect and admiration from humans and other animals alike, although they do not abuse their power.
But it's not just that they are big; it's how elephants carry themselves that counts. When they walk, there is a remarkable grace in their movement.Elephant life in the herd is governed by a matriarch. In family and clan, all authority is vested in experienced mother elephants who demand respect and are acknowledged as the herd leaders.

Succinctly ,the elephants can be looked upon as creatures with a mix of some great qualities -
1)An Icon of Leadership
2)Masters of Survival
3)Benefactors of Cooperation
4)Inspirers of Greatness
5)Leaders of Compassion
6)Champions of Communication
7)Keepers of Wisdom

Switching on to the fierce and yet fabulous species of Dragons,I found that the
other side of the shore is green as well...
The dragon is considered to be a master of authority and a deliverer of good fortune in oriental philosophy. As a result people born in dragon years are respected and honored.
It is fond of flamboyance and color and is a beautiful creature, bubbling with energy, utterly irrepressible and extremely gifted. It is ambitious and loves to do things on a grand scale without being ostentatious and is the monarch of all he surveys.
Of course there are greater kinds of dragons with varying characteristics unlike the
Elephants.
Metal dragons are born leaders, independent, courageous, honest, powerful and determined creatures but their inflexibility, fierceness, uncompromising and forceful natures mar the other positive qualities.
Water dragons are likely to be persuasive, articulate, more intuitive, flexible and calm. They can re-evaluate a situation, think about it and take a wiser course of action.
Outspokenness, generosity, nobility and self-confidence are some of the qualities of a wood dragon. They are organized, liberal and capable of being prosperous in life but are at the same time, a bit pushy. They are open to other people's points of view.
Dragons have good leadership qualities and instinctively know how to stay on top. They are always questing for success.Boundless confidence makes dragons intrepid even in the face of insurmountable difficulties. Therefore they court success easily and reach the top.

On one hand where Dragons are supposed to be magnanimous, vibrant, powerful, charismatic, intelligent, honest, straightforward, creative, generous, warmhearted, enterprising, brave, passionate, self-sufficient, self-assured, witty, resilient and noble while on the flip side they are often inflexible, demanding, pompous, intolerant, dogmatic, proud, acerbic, ruthless, arrogant and judgmental. A dragon cannot conform to rules and regulations. His creativity is muffled by the imposition of restrictions. Their highly enthusiastic natures often leave them fatigued.

The fiery creatures are helpful by nature but, spurred by their pride they are often reluctant in receiving help from others. Dragons are, often tactless and quick-tempered and sometimes conceited. Dragons also enjoy the dubious distinction of being tyrannical and aggressive. They cannot appreciate the little things and small pleasures of life.

Well, now is the moment to reflect upon the vibrant and versatile qualities of these
two species....It amazes me that both these species portray a mix of some exceptional
qualities which makes them gigantic figures of inspiration...
Imagine if there were people with the 'elephantine' qualities....would'nt they suit
best to our present day business world and managerial environment??In another aspect,
elephantine people could also lead to better approach towards world peace and harmony.Yet another dimension would be the 'survival of the elephantines' in todays era which is full of die-hard competition and that too unhealthy!!It just makes me wonder as to how great the world could be if we had people with the spirit of an elephant and even a fraction of it's qualities...World Leaders would have a different
face and attitude if they were to possess the remarkable compassionate leadership qualities as that of the Jumbo!!We homo sapiens are just too unsatisfied and have too much of cravings...but had we been adaptive like the elephants...we would not only
survive the battle for sustainability but also would have been a lot happier...
"Wo kehte hain na hathi ki chaal mast hoti hai kyoki wo apni masti mein rehta hai"
Talking of power ...today...abuse of power is just a natural behavior...people donot even revolt against it...But hats off to the "Gigantic Mammal" ...it does'nt just have a great power but also great sense of responsibility.......The attitude of co-operation and passion, that one should not trample another for its own cause,is not yet an aspect where mankind has evolved...Infact man has become beastly...his greed
and jealousy are exponentially cultivating!!
An amusing observation is that man cannot even seen as better when compared to the counterpart of this tale-The Dragon!!Yes,we do have our own fierce notions of a dragon, but from what I found ,the dragons too have a balanced blend of positive and negative!!Atleast they are honest and loyal to their own species....On the contrary..
man has become the most acrimonious and insane specie in the present day scenario!!
I don't know why do I feel that mankind has lost its morals and humanity down the lane to 21st century!!Development not necessarily means walking over the down trodden!!I really feel that the elephants and dragons have become extinct..not just in their own specie...but also in our!!The elephant and the dragon could have balanced and refined the hierarchy of our government and society...and yet lead us to development at a better pace!!Leadership is what runs a country....and leadership just does'nt mean "to lead" or "to be the head of",it has far more to it....
Leadership requires the completion of a picture with the leader as one of its components rather than the frame alone!!And how can a leader become a part of the people if he does'nt have compassion, confidence and honesty?

The reason behind “scarcity of skilled engineers in the IT domain”-INHUMAN SADISTS

When a student passes out from High School, she is supposed to be heading towards maturity of thoughts and actions. Till this point of time he has been in a closed domain, but as soon as he steps out in the world, he learns to see beyond the yardstick, and that’s why we say that “the young generation is the future”. Their tender mind now reaches its apex utilization stage. The budding students are so enthusiastic and full of energy. The need is to rightly channelize their energy so as to best exploit it for their and their nation’s development.
The school and parents definitely have a key role in the casting of a young mind but what leads to the ultimate channelization is their higher education viz college/university. By choosing a particular college and course the student decides which way he/she wishes to go ahead in their career. College is the place where a child is supposed to grow in thoughts, learning and decisions. It’s like the instance when a child is taught “how to ride a bicycle” where the guide holds on the cycle till the child learns to balance and then the rider is left on his own and he learns to do it by himself and might ride in a different fashion compared to his guide. Likewise as the student enters a college, he is given more freedom and less spoon feeding so that he may grow up as an “Independent skilled individual”.
Every student knows what he wants when he passes through this stage of his life. He needs more freedom, more space and more opportunities to innovate so as to contribute to the pool of mind boggling ideas, the best of which may take the form of reality. Its not required to look into what students must not be allowed to have/do, because that’s already been taken care of, far too much than required though. Then what are we missing which is leading to the crisis of skilled graduates?
We are definitely missing something quintessential and by that I mean something in the process of turning a student into a graduate. What could it be? Is it the laziness of the young generation, or is there something wrong with the methodology of Indian institutes which is turning out scores of less skilled graduates each year? A clap always needs two hands, but what if one hand dominates the other??
By far I have seen two extreme categories of colleges in India, one being the movie type colleges wherein students do anything and everything as they wish , the other being “LAND OF RULES” wherein students feel that they live in a central jail. Both are’nt any good for honing the talents of the young buds. The need is to strike a balance between these two extremities. One could argue that more and more rules are being introduced at colleges because of the former category of colleges where students get spoilt. But is it helping any way, except receding the young population by frequent suicides? So again ,instead of looking into how new rules should be introduced, lets look into how this confined milieu is corroding the student mind and the social issues clinging with the juvenile cohort.
For instance let us take a very renowned university of Southern India. What is to come head, is as true as that person’s statement who is in excruciating pain. When a student comes here for councelling, he is blinded by the breath-taking campus and facilities, and specially those coming from Northern regions expect more exposure at a university like this which shows 100% placement and is in the heart of software hub. The next thing he finds is -he is travelling all the way from his far away home to this institute ,full of aspirations of a better future and a great life here. He is saddened by the thought of being away from is home and family yet somehow he feels he’s going to have the best time of his life in this period as after this he will have to take up responsibilities and he also knows he would definitely have to work to graduate as a skilled personnel, as the competition is cut-throat.
All these hopes and aspirations, are like a nitro-boost to a person’s mind which coaxes him to think, innovate and work wonders. But Whaam!!what happens in these years of graduation that when he sits for placements, he is like an old tired person who does’nt bother much to fight for the best of the firms?
Well here’s an entire saga on the “process of rusting innovative minds!!”
Lets talk in terms of aspects of student life at any university,or you may say the components which play key role in the development of their skills in these years of rigorous training.
First and the foremost comes “ Health”, how so ever smart a person may be,he needs to ensure he is in best of his health to carry out any further activity. When he was at home, he never bothered about his health because his mother was always there to take care of it. But when he stays in hostel, where he’s supposed to take care of all his requirements and basic amenities then he comes to understand what role does health play in his life, because if he falls ill then there would be no one to take care of his duties and him as well! This university, which had blinded the child with all its showy builidings and facilities, apparently does’nt seem to have a well equipped Health- Care Centre. A student who is admitted there with disease-X , is discharged after a fortnight with an additional infection and uncured X. And when his parent’s come up to see whether he is fine or not, then there is a chance they may fall sick too as they are made to run to all kinds of departments for so called permissions!
The agony does’nt end here,it’s just the beginning.Till now I had been using a “HE” for convenience, but when you talk of universities like this then it is a law to Specify HE or SHE. Yes one of the well known social problems roots here, at a learning centre, wherein Boys and girls are entirely different species. For the girls it is 5pm as the end of their funtime on weekends and for the other species it is night out! Wallah, what a contradiction!Talking of health for girls , fathers are not allowed inside hostel & mothers have to beg to meet their daughter anytime and to look after her health as there’s no one else to do so.One may argue, that men should not be allowed inside girls hostel and so fathers are not allowed.Thats true, but are those workers to be trusted more than fathers, who work inside the women hostel without any supervision? This was just the scenario when the college is in normal routine, the exam duration is yet to be talked upon. If a student falls seriously ill during his exam, then he may better consider himself re-registered and pay loads of money which may come handy for repaint of the railings of the institute. Whatever may come, give the exam and die, there would not be any re-schedule for you. And so the student, who was or could have been bright, but fell ill got the first blow of his career and the skills which were on the surface went a layer low.
It is said that every person has a child inside him, which has the tendency to do things which he is specifically denied to. And even science has the proof that young blood is too excited, so what do you think a guy or girl could possibly do when he/she is strictly forbidden from interacting with the opposite sex? Inculcating this cheap mentality that if a guy and gal sit on one bench in the class is shameful , can only lead to the after effects of them going on the wrong path and not having healthy friendship. Its so amusing to see that the college feels that it’s their responsibility to keep the students in check while they are away from home and not see that an even greater responsibility is to ensure that they are happy and healthy there. They donot have time for student problems, because they feel that they are the one who run the college, but they forget that STUDENTS make the college. The stupid part is,that they think that Indian constitution is only for others and not for a university which comes under it.India is democratic but, this university seems to have its own laws which are in no way by the pupil, for the pupil or of the pupil.
Instead of providing space, time and opportunites to students ,this university takes it all away so as to ensure that the student becomes a slave. Attending classes had never before been such a burden to a student and why is it?The reason is the cut-throat attendance percentage of 85% in every subject before every exam, including all medical and other casues. Students sit in class just for the sake of attendance,as if their career is based on being present in the classes rather than understanding or learning. He does’nt even have the option of choosing a well qualified faculty. Its so obivious,a student need’nt be forced to attend a class if the teacher is skilled and good at hi subject,he will himself be interested in learning, after all he is paying for it.But the mockery is,they don’t have good teachers and they want students to stick to their seats and pay full attention to whatever the person in front of them speaks. How can one expect this out of any HUMAN?On top of that, the frequent introduction of tests, assignments, exams etc tires the student mind as he is under pressure of scoring for the sake of CGPA.When does he get time to think and understand on his own? Where does he get the freedom to gain deep knowledge in the field of his interest and come up with a new idea? The opponents may argue that the students are free after and before classes , but after the forced hours of torment(classes), all a young person needs is some entertainment, food and rest besides completing projects, assignments before the deadlines. Here goes the proficiency, another stratum lower.
What would it be like if a person has to live at a place where he has constant fear of being observed for each of his actions?Well, you would know if you were a student or specifically a Girl at this university. You may start thinking it’s a heinous crime to fall in love if you are at this so called co-ed university, because here even being friends with a guy may result into something unexpected. I don’t understand why the Indian constitution makers included a column of rights in the preamble, because according to this institute, one has no right to speak up for oneself, say anything against something unacceptable, love a person of opposite sex or act like a human.
Teachers and other staff are supposed to show the right path to the pupils and take care of them when in trouble but it seems completely opposite a scenario at this tormenting place. The warden takes no responsibility of the hostellers and the teacher does’nt bother how a student is learning and interacting, all he knows is to check that the candidate does’nt write anything except the textbook in the answer sheet. There is no one to encourage a budding engineer, rather there are many to make him follow the clichés and shut him up when he approaches with a new idea.
An obvious question comes to my mind each time I encounter people who degrade the status of a teacher .Doctors, Police , Engineers all made to vow or take oaths before they begin their profession, why not the most integral part of the society-the teachers? They have such a great moral responsibility towards the society and all they do is create rifts between young people ,who ,till date, were not even aware of the South-North India,Tamil-telugu etc divisions in the society. The root is the young generation and its not even their fault. When they see that their fellowmates , at such a small age are ready to play dirty politics based on power of their language and state then they are prone to become one of the divisional-misanthropists.
This is just a glimpse of the life a student goes through in these golden years of his life at a renowned university, wasting his energies and time worrying about something or the other which may make him miserable rather than becoming a zealous skilled professional .And forget about raising any voice against any inhuman act or wrong accusation. The management is the last entity one should go to,for complaining about any inconveniences or you will never know what HIT you. Your career might be greatly jeopardized by one single complain of yours. The ones who speak of problems are simplya made to go through an inquiry committee, as if they are murderers or criminals and if they further protest, they will be simply kicked out of the university forever. Even the law doesn’t punish some one so harshly as these inhuman hirnakashyaps(mythological monster) do.
After all this, comes the day when a student appears for placement and there he sits, ready to accept any firm and any job because he’s not that skilled any more and he knows that he lost it somewhere in those 4/5yrs of his college life(at institutes like the one mentioned).

~~Bhagat's "2 States"~~ A valuable contribution to INDIANS only..

"Love" when not brutally murdered....can actually CONQUER all!!
The first thing I would like to say is....I loved reading this creation of Bhagat...I could'nt let it go...and so read it in one go...Man!! had a gala time experiencing this tale...
The way he has described the story of his marriage...is so simple...yet so enthralling..and spicey..that one feels like reading on and on..
I personally found it very truthful....as Chetan has not only focused on his love story...but also the discriminations prevailing in our country...Though the epilogue is a piece of word-art ...to attempt the acceptance of this novel by tamilians....but the content of the book is as str8 fwd as it cud hav been...
To be frank.....when I read the description of Tamil Nadu and it's people....I was surprised at first.
The reason being the fact that the author had put down my notions and experiences in words...
I used to think that I was a bit prejudiced about tamil nadu and it's people...But after reading this one...I felt...that it's not just me who feels this way...It's the story of all Non-Tamilians...or to say in the language of south Indian's....The story of all North Indians...
The most disgusting fact which I came across....when I came down to Tamil Nadu was..that people here...had divisions...too many of them>>North & south Indian...Tamilian & Telugu..etc. etc. I had never experiencd such discrimination in the Northern states before....Yet sometimes I do find it a valuable argument..that it may be coz of minority of southern ppl in north....
Well...I am not writing this to express my dislikes about south india...I am here to express...what I feel...bhagat would have tryd to convey thru this book....and wat myt hav bn mistaken for mockery of any state...
I hav heard the review of this book from the ppl of the 2states,i.e. a punjabi & a tamilian...as wel as one from none of these...Me being the 3rd ...who does'nt belong to any of the 2 states...
What I found was that...the punjabi as well as I...enjoyd the book thoroughly.....without letting any grudge enter our hearts...but the tamilian...seemed to take it otherwise....To him it seemd that this book was an attack on their state....Why so??
I have failed to understand....that why is it so difficult for people here to accept their flaws and take healthy criticism as humour???And even if not that....why is it so difficult for ppl here to be INDIANS first and punjabis, gujratis or tamilians later??
I have been a true witness to this state and its procedures...I have seen elderly ppl talk of north indians as trash...and cherish orthodox thinking while their cinema is the most obsene display. These are minor...the biggest fact that hit me was these ppl are not ready to even accept HINDI as their national language....Even the Name Plates and Hoardings here are in Tamil...what about the guests who visit their state and have no clue of their language??
Practicin one's own language is very good...but does it imply forgetting their national language?
There seems to be a lack of patriotism towards nation...all that is left if State politics...
I cannot be totally biased towards either of the two regions....coz I know the hardships faced by both...I know that there are reasons as to why tamilians are a bit strong headed when it comes to their state...But dat doesnt give them the reason to propagate discrimination in the following generations...I feel that Bhagat has tryd to convey that...not only tamilians...but all the ppl in our country should rise above the tangles of discrimintn...be it state, cast, creed, wealth or sex...
I dunno about our elders...may be we cannot change their thinking...but can't we...as youngsters..inculcate...better and broader ways of thinking ....and percieving???It's contradicting though that even while I talk against Regionalism...I still am somewhere portraying bias against southern india...I never had that before...but as time went by and experiences came along...I drifted towards the wrong direction...I really hope that one day I get the tiny blob of regionalism out of my mind...and so it would be fair enough to preach others about the same...
Would'nt it be better that...books like the '2 States' actually make a differnc in the society of young...?When we are in need of any help...that time no one remebrs whether the helper is tamilian or NorthIndian Then why at any other occasion??Do we forget the person who helped us jus bcoz we strt noticin that he/she is from a difrnt state which we don't like much?..If aftr reading this book...e1 if few punjabi's & tamilians and not only them...maharashtrians,bengalis...etc....all take some time to retrospect themselves...,Bhagat would attain what he intended to do...as a writer...
I must say....the book is a fantabulous connotation of romance and real life problems...
If all of us read it with the eye of an "Indian"....we'll surely, feel an urge to make a differnc..if not that....we would atleast realize some fallacies....And not only we wud love the tragedy of comedies...but also...experience fragments of our life in the pages of this Spicey Red Book... :)

“A BONAFIDE REVERIE “-Exemplifying THE FUTURE PAST tense…

One morning ,she was fast asleep…..lost in the world of dreams……

Wait!!!…This is’nt bout a dream but a realization…..The realization which came with a bful morning…..And it’s so strange that this kinda realization comes every now and then…but in various disguises…and with difference of degrees.

Well…there are two dimensions of this write-up….one being the real life observation…and the other being the fantasy of a candid soul ….

A dawn that let the rays of glee touch her …..And with that came the day…..which has never let the night arrive….. Dusk tried to interrupt often…..Yet the day did ‘nt seem to give way …as it was favored by an ANGEL….a nice person…..whom she met by co-incidence…Or you may say a pre-planned incidence..she figured him out to be her angel…..who came 2 her rescue from the tangles of sorrow, pain and all the negative vibes around …..He waved his magical wand and she saw a dimmed star light up 4 her…a smile crept across her face…He took her hand and she felt a wave of tranquility enter her veins….. She felt warm….for he reassured her that all her wounds would heal with the sands of time….He bestowed upon her……love…care…affection…warmth…and all the bful feelings which she had forgotten for sumtym…..He saw the child in her…eager to express itself…..n he beamed …..wich meltd the walls around the infant….n he waited…..

Waited for the child to speak…n the lil girl spoke……spoke her heart out…….and she was soooooooooooo happy……so so happy that her happiness had no bounds…..she looked around….and all that she sensed was glee…hope…peace……

Hm……she always knew that happiness is shortlived…….but this lil angel changed her definition of happiness…..She felt as if she wud never feel that there r feelings apart frm being happy for most part of 1z life……This guy…..with all his simplicity…..and all his sweetness ….made her realize that the sleek possibility of people lyk him bein REAL had cum true…….She cud feel watevr she wanted 2, say watevr was on her mind….without thinking wat way he waz gonna percept it….. coz some where deep down she knew he’d nt misinterpret….(she was wrong at times) ….Yes she din wanna share him….coz he waz her angel…. …she dinno what meant to be perfect…But wat she knew was he was lyk a sorcerer’s stone….rare to fynd….n even rarer to have……n so he waz no less than nearly perfect 4 dat lil girl…..

If she had 2 depict the role he played in her life she wud say:"he does’nt play A role in my life…….Instead he plays many in my life"...

Her TEACHER….-a very sweet, a lil strict…n NO-Spoon feeding kynda tcher…….

Her Guide- when she was confused n dinno wher 2 go….

Her puke-box(HEHEHE….yes yes….puke nt juke….)-wen she had sumthn..nethng n evrythng 2 tel…which had been on her mind …..

Her phone buddy -wen she had 2 stick 2 d phon 4 hours n hours tokin non-sense…..

Her ATM-anytime…anywhere….Mate

Her victim-wen she felt lyk suffocatn sum1 ….

And If she had to sum it up…

Her best buddy….

Now….comes the twist in the tale…..and that is…..the “HE” is this tale is nt a particular person..nor is the “she”…It’s a tale ….rather somewhat a fantasy of every innocent…love seeking person…But it would be wrong to say that it’s just a fantasy….. In our lives, at some point of time… …if we retrospect….we would find that…there have been few people around us…who fit in the outline of “Him” in this tale…Many ppl could find “him” in a friend ….ofcourse in their beloved….but I took some time to realize …that…the “him” in my life is not just one person….it’s a mix of a some unnoticed…n ‘taken for granted’ people…though I also realized that some of them were just a hallucination....But why talk of those...who don't exist nemore...

The first being a “her” -my Mother…..the best girl friend one can ever fantasize about…and the others being “A few good men”…….well….not men yet J!!!I am glad…that I realized…it ….though a bit late…

“Better Late than Never!!!”

A very simple thought…but…could traverse a whole world of interpretations…

And for those who are wondering…that how does my write-up satisfy my title…

It’s all about some past experiences and some future expectations!!!

A new commencement...yet from the same origin..

Well...This being my First Full Fledged Blog....I wish to dedicate it to the LOVE of my life..My Moma.....My Archangel...

My Divine Archangel

Stanza-1

I feel so cheerful, when I see Her arrive.

My hopes turn fruitful,

From Her always, glee I derive.

Her smile connotes assurance,

Her words symbolize guidance.

Stanza-2

Her presence enhances the sunlight,

Her smile outshines the moonlight.

Oh! what a sight ,my spirits take a flight.

My pleasure exceeds heights.

Stanza-3

As I squeeze my eyes, to envision the morning bright,

an urge captures my imagination,

which ladens me with a sensation.

Oh! how I wish my mother would hug me and I,

tickle her as an infant and deep inside my heart,

feel the warmth that I always anticipate.

Stanza-4

The dimmed lights and that wondrous sight,

An angel stands there beaming at me,

and I wonder could dreaming I be?

A face so innocent, a disposition so decent,

Her smile gleams as the moon in crescent.
